Aloha, my name is Marlena

I have always loved to travel – especially outside of the US. It brings me a fresh perspective when experiencing different cultures; the food, the history, a long heritage that drives their art and architecture, their priorities such as work and family, and their care of their environment. Being a visitor, I can see all of this from a higher viewpoint and it is…inspiring. I enjoy being outdoors and love to walk through all the cities, towns and country when I travel. I can experience so much more that way – get off the beaten path, find something new at every turn. Here in Maui I enjoy walking the beaches and mountains. Many of my pieces are directly influenced by nature. I love recreating the colors and feelings of the ocean and the island vibe.

How It Began

When I was visiting Cape Town, South Africa, the hotel I stayed at had the most amazing chandelier in the lobby. It was elegant, yet also earthy, seemingly made from bits and pieces from the nearby beaches. It was marvelous. When I moved to Maui that sense of style just seemed like a perfect fit. And so, I began to imagine how to build one. It’s taken me several years of design and development, from how to create the frame to the lighting and to the individual pieces. Each creation is a piece of art. I think you’ll enjoy it.
